“Do you have the courage? Do you have the courage to bring forth [your] work? The treasures that are hidden inside you are hoping you will say yes.”
- Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic
Across nearly two decades as an educator, university chaplain, ordained minister, and coach, my professional life has always been filled with public speaking. From delivering addresses at university commencement ceremonies, to providing live translation for social movement leaders across Latin America, to delivering speeches and sermons in pulpits of many faiths across the globe, I have found public speaking to be a great exercise in compassion, connection, and empathy. It is an invitation to know a group of people well enough to deliver information that actually creates meaning for them– and it also is a courageous act of self confidence to truly believe that we each have something worthwhile to say.
In addition to my long standing professional experience, my educational background has also been deeply steeped in the art of public speaking and interpersonal communication. I have a Masters degree from Harvard University Divinity School where I studied multifaith chaplaincy, preaching, and spiritual counseling. While at Harvard, I was awarded first place in the university’s annual Billings Preaching Prize competition. My undergraduate degree is from Denison University where I studied Theatre and Voice and was named Commencement Speaker for my graduating class.
As a speaker, coach, writer, and consultant, my expertise lies in my ability to immediately identify the natural gifts and talents of each person or group that I work with, while also spotting the areas where growth and improvements can be made. In our work together, we’ll enhance those natural areas of talent while providing actionable steps to overcome fears or improve areas where growth is needed. My approach is encouraging, results-oriented, and rooted in the belief that growing as a public speaker is a transformative part of one’s journey into their fullest and most authentic self.

“Julie is an incredibly gifted public speaking coach and leader. She was so encouraging; supporting me with a strengths-based approach with insights for improvement that I felt actually excited about implementing. She is talented, very insightful, and encouraging. She is a complete joy to work with. I highly recommend Julie to help with public speaking and learning to thrive more in your life!
I stepped away from my sessions with Julie feeling so encouraged and affirmed for my natural talents and strengths. She reviewed several recordings of my public speaking, and I was nervous about our first meeting. She totally put me at ease. I felt so uplifted by her positive and thoughtful reflection on my strengths. The areas she invited me to work on were also so encouraging, and they felt so actionable and easy to implement.
I do a lot of public speaking in my role in healthcare, and I started getting more and more positive feedback after implementing her suggestions. She also helped guide me on various aspects of leadership. Julie is truly a gem. She’s highly intelligent, insightful, kind, and shines in her ability to encourage through her coaching. I am so grateful, and recommend her to anyone (novice or more seasoned public speakers alike!).”
